So today we had the Annual Pokémon day, and with that Nintendo gave us a special Nintendo Direct to commemorate it. What we got was a 7 minute long video from the guys at GameFreak introducing the next installment of the core Pokémon series due for release on the Nintendo Switch late 2019.
Pokémon Sword and Shield are the two new games which will follow on from the 2016 releases Pokémon Sun and Moon in the vein of core Pokémon RPG titles, what we saw today was just a glimpse of the both the new starting Pokémon we will have and also the new region the games are set in called the Galar Region.
The three starters below are the first new Pokémon we have seen so far in the new games and are as they have rightly been pointed out the first Pokémon that you will meet in Pokémon Sword and Shield. We will have a whole new Generation of Pokémon as well with the new region.
The Galar region it self looks to be modeled on early industrial Britain with the nods to steam power and water wheels in the game trailer it self which is a nice departure from the series norm, you can see as well the styling of the buildings has changed to fit with this as well along with the terrain of the new region shown below in the map we have been shown today. Alongside this if you noticed in the trailer as well that trainers seem to be wearing clothes reminiscent of British school uniforms.
Pokémon Sword and Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
